Archive hub

Hi all,
I just came across this great resource that is pulling together records from all sorts of archives across the UK. You can see where has historical collections in your areas: for instance the womens library has archives of the Women into computing conferences.

Bot Shop

Hi all,

I wonder if there are any of you out there that are researching in the area of robotics.....

There has been a call from the HEA subject centre for researchers to put in proposals for a paper. For more information please refer to the contents of the e-mail posted below:

"Dear Colleagues

The University of Derby in collaboration with the HEA / ICS invite you to contribute to a practical workshop on the use of robotics in the teaching of computing and mathematics. We are seeking contributions in the form of demonstrations, simulations and practical exercises that you are using, would like to use, would like to develop or think would be a neat idea. If you would like to share these ideas with other like minded colleagues, please get in touch with us. (See dates below.) Formal papers will be considered, but emphasis will be given to the practicalities of how robots in any shape or form can be used to enhance teaching in the subject area.

Well we now have access to a new journal: Proceedings of the ICE - Forensic Engineering
Which contains lots of interesting articles that look at investigations and reports on these very issues.
Please take a look at it!

There's more to the library catalogue...

…than just being able to search for books and journals. For example, did you know that you can save your search queries for future reference and set up alerts to be notified when new books are added to stock? No? It’s easy enough to set up. Simply sign-in to the catalogue, run your search as normal and then click on the ‘Save query’ link which appears to the left of the results (just below the search box, in fact). There is then an option to save the query or set up an alert. You can manage your saved queries and alerts by clicking on ‘My Account’ in the top right of the screen.
Ever wondered what the ‘e-Shelf’ link in the top right of the catalogue screen is used for? The e-Shelf is where you can save lists of useful books and journals and then organise them into folders. For example, you might wish to add a list of reading for your module so that you can easily refer back to it and see which books are currently available. To add items to your e-Shelf, make sure you are signed in to the catalogue and then click the little white star which appears next to each result in the results list. The star turns yellow, indicating it has been added. If you click on the e-Shelf link in the top right of the page you can then view and organise all items you have added.

Watch out.... plagiarism is about!

For those of you that think perhaps plagiarism is just a problem affecting you while you are studying... take heed from this German politian!
